Mortality Information

This publication provides detail of the rates of death (mortality) and other indicators related to the population of Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The information presented here covers a range of time periods, dependant on the reporting periods of the various sources used to compile the report.

It should be noted that in April 2019 there was a boundary change between the former Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Health Board (ABMU) and Cwm Taf Health Board, in which the responsibility for providing healthcare services for people in the Bridgend County Borough Council was transferred to the new Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board; while the newly-formed Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) retained responsibility for providing healthcare services for the population of Neath Port Talbot and Swansea.  Data in this publication contains data that covers the period before and after the 2019 boundary change and therefore relates to different populations over different periods of time.

The short-term increased mortality seen in early 2020 reflects the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
