Swansea Bay Veterans NHS Wales service

Veterans NHS Wales is a specialist mental health service for ex-Armed Forces personnel across Wales. In Swansea Bay, we offer trauma-informed, evidence-based care tailored to the unique experiences of veterans.

We are designed to support veterans who have experienced mental health difficulties as a result of their military service. Often our clients may not realise it at the time, but what they have experienced and been exposed to can have a significant impact, years after leaving the military. If you are a veteran or you know someone who may benefit from our service, you can always contact us to discuss whether they would be suitable.

What We Offer

  • Psychological assessment and therapy for service-related mental health difficulties
  • Expertise in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, sleep disorders, depression and adjustment to civilian life.
  • Therapies include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)  Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

Our core therapies

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps individuals identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours that contribute to distress. It is goal-focused, collaborative, and widely endorsed by NICE for a range of mental health conditions. Go here to find out more about CBT on the BABCP website
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured therapy that uses bilateral stimulation (e.g. eye movements) to help process traumatic memories. The World Health Organisation and NICE for PTSD and complex trauma recommend it. Go to the EMDR association website to find out more.
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a trauma-focused therapy that helps individuals reframe negative beliefs related to traumatic experiences. It is especially effective for PTSD and is widely used in military and veteran populations. Visit the PTSD website here to find out more about CPT
