What will the tracing team ask people who have received a positive test result?

Tracers will ask you to confirm your identity through asking you to confirm your full name, date of birth and address prior to moving onto questioning. You will also be asked for details of members of your household.

The tracing team member will provide advice on the next steps to be taken following a positive test result, for example on self-isolating and hygiene measures for the individual and their household.

They will also gather information on the places you have visited recently and the names and contact details of the people you were in close contact with in the 48 hours before your symptoms started. You may also be asked about locations and people you’ve been in contact with, up to 14 days prior to your symptoms starting or your test date, to understand and control sources of infection.

Members of the contact tracing teams will not:

  • Ask for bank, PIN or payment details – there is no cost to being part of the testing or tracing programme.
  • Ask for personal information about other accounts such as social media accounts.
  • Ask to call back on premium numbers such as those beginning with 09 and 087.
  • Ask to set up a password or PIN number over the phone
