Management of Renal Anaemia during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) Outbreak: Information for patients

Page updated: 31/12/20

Due to the increasing number of cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) across the UK, we are trying to reduce the number of people coming into the hospital to avoid catching or spreading the virus. This includes outpatient iron clinic appointments. We will continue to care for you throughout the outbreak, but we will be doing things differently. As you know, government advice can change day-to-day, so the information here and our advice may also change. We will keep you informed of any changes.

The changes we are making:

The number of people in clinic will be kept to a minimum. We will carefully review whether you need to attend for intravenous iron. We will carry out a telephone review to assess if you are need to attend.

If you collect EPO injections from us:

Please telephone 01792 703392 and give us at least 2 weeks’ notice when you require a further supply of your EPO injections.

EPO can continue to be collected from the Renal Pharmacy at Morriston hospital. If you or a friend or relative is collecting your medication from Morriston Hospital, they should not come in to the Liz Baker Renal Unit. Instead, they should ring 01792 703392 or 01792 531297 on arrival and a member of the team will come outside with your EPO. This is to protect them, you and other patients from spreading or catching the virus.

If you, or a friend or family member is unable to collect your EPO please contact us.

Blood Tests: We will continue to provide you with a form for a blood test with a letter telling you when it needs to be done.  You can have a blood test in your local hospital or GP surgery.

Please contact us if you are having problems getting an appointment for a blood test.

EPO administration: Please contact us if you have any issues that arise regarding your EPO administration.
