Arts-based staff wellbeing project wins another national award

An arts-based staff wellbeing project has won another national award.

Sharing Hope was developed at SBUHB in 2022 in response to staff wellbeing concerns following the COVID pandemic.

Sharing Hope sessions provide safe spaces and supportive, creative environments for staff to share their stories through art, process feelings and come out stronger together.

It is a collaboration between Swansea Bay’s Quality Improvement and Arts & Heritage teams, offering opportunities for staff to express themselves, connect with each other and access support to be able to reflect and move forward. There are well documented links between staff wellbeing and the quality and efficacy of care.

Last year, it won the Nursing Times Workforce Award for ‘Best staff wellbeing initiative”, earlier this year the HPMA Cymru ‘Wellbeing Award’ and now has a third national award, after picking up the top prize in the Royal Society for Public Health 'Health and Wellbeing Awards'.

The awards recognise and celebrate a range of activities, policies and strategies what empower communities and individuals and improve the population’s health.

Johan Skre from Arts & Heritage said: “There is a huge focus on

preventative measures, and soft-touch things we can do to reduce the strain on services

“So doing something like this for staff wellbeing and staff retention has really struck a chord. It’s shown by the attention we get.

“I didn’t know what to expect about the RSPB awards, but it was a great honour. We’ll need a cabinet for our awards soon!”

“Ultimately, this recognition for Sharing Hope highlights the need for innovative approaches to staff wellbeing and SBUHB’s dedication in this area”.

The awards ceremony featured the Minister for Public Health and Prevention, Andrew Gwynne.
