It's a bank holiday weekend - how to access urgent care when it's not an emergency
It’s a bank holiday weekend – and Morriston Hospital’s Emergency Department (A&E) is likely to be very busy.
This means that despite the best efforts of staff, you are likely to face a very long wait if you come to ED with a non-life threatening illness or injury. NOTE – if you have chest pains/stroke/serious illness or serious injury, DO still come to the Emergency Department.
If you need urgent care, but it's not an emergency, there are other options to consider:
- For minor injuries, go to the Minor Injury Unit at Neath Port Talbot Hospital, Baglan Way, Port Talbot, SA12 7BX. It’s open 8am to 9pm, seven days a week, including weekends and bank holidays.
It can treat adults and children over one with minor injuries to the body such as cuts, burns, sprains, strains, dislocations and broken bones. It CANNOT deal with suspected heart attacks, chest pain or stroke. For these you MUST go to the ED.

- Remember the Swansea Bay GP Out of Hours Service operates when your own surgery is closed, overnight and 24 hours on weekends and bank holidays. To access this service, ring 111.

- Visit your local chemist, because pharmacists are experts in medicines who are trained to offer advice. They can recommend over-the-counter medication for coughs, colds, rashes, bites, aches and pains and, under the Common Ailments Service, offer FREE medication for certain conditions.
