Reducing Infections

Swansea Bay University Health Board takes the safety of our patients very seriously. That means doing everything we can to reduce the risk of anyone acquiring an infection while they are in our care.

Infection prevention is regarded as everyone’s business, and the Health Board is committed to supporting staff in preventing infections.

The Health Board has introduced the use of a licensed, single-use applicator skin disinfectant for use before inserting any intravenous line.  The Health Board also advocates the use of a Clinical Risk Assessment Tool to screen all new patient admissions to identify where there is a risk that a proportion of patients are carriers of MRSA who consequently may be at increased risk of having an MRSA blood stream infection (bacteraemia).
