About Me

I am a Clinical Scientist and Magnetic Resonance Physicist in the MRI Physics group.

I have a PhD in Physics (2001) from Heriot Watt University where I was part of the Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) Group researching MBE growth and characterisation of II-VI semiconductors for five years as a postgraduate student and subsequently research associate.

This led to research and development roles in the semiconductor industry working for original equipment manufacturers Surface Technology Systems (Process Engineer) and Edwards High Vacuum (Technologist).

In 2011, I moved into the healthcare industry after completing an IPEM accredited MSc in Medical Radiation Physics at Swansea University. I worked as an Applications Development Physicist at Acuitas Medical contributing to development of their MRI-based structural spectroscopy software technology that was developed in a Matlab environment.

I joined Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) in 2017, initially as an assistant physicist for the Radiotherapy Physics Group before successfully applying to be a Medical Physics Clinical Scientist trainee specialising in radiotherapy in the NHS Scientist Training Programme. After completing the programme and an MSc in Clinical Science at Swansea University, I gained HCPC registration and joined the MRI Physics Group as a Clinical Scientist and Magnetic Resonance Physicist.

Building upon my STP training, MSc research project and previous industry roles, I have special interests in Quality Assurance and MRI in radiotherapy, particularly characterising geometric distortion and protocol development.

I continue to use my Matlab skills in developing quality assurance and data analysis functions. In providing clinical safety support, I am working towards becoming an accredited MR Safety Expert (MRSE). In addition, I provide support for various modules on the Clinical Science and Medical Radiation Physics MSc courses at Swansea University.

I am a member of the Institute of Physics (IOP) and the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM).
