People who have persistent pain often find they cannot do as much physical activity as they could before the pain started. Some cannot walk as far, others find carrying, bending or standing is difficult. The long-term effects of doing less can result in deconditioning with balance and co-ordination worsening. Essentially, what started out as a problem with pain becomes two problems: pain and loss of function.
Physiotherapy in the Persistent Pain Service aims to reverse this cycle by finding the right amount of activity & exercise for you to start with and slowly build this up at a comfortable level.
