Changes to online blood test booking system

A new and improved online self-booking system for blood tests will be live from Wednesday, April 27th. The link will be displayed below from Wednesday morning.

It works in a similar way to the current system, allowing you to pick where you have your test, a day and a time.

But it will also:

  • be easier to understand
  • let you know if there are any earlier appointment slots available
  • be fully bilingual.

You still need a blood form in order to book your appointment.

Please note our old online appointment system will continue to be available for the next month, running alongside the new system. So you can still use this to check appointment availability up to and including Saturday, May 21st.

This is because appointments taking place in the next few weeks have already been booked onto the old online system and these won’t automatically transfer to the new system.

Important notice

Due to damage sustained during the recent storms, the phlebotomy service in Bay Field Hospital has temporarily moved.

It can now be accessed by the same entrance as the Mass Vaccination Centre.

This arrangement is expected to remain in place until further notice.

There will be people in the field hospital car parks to guide patients to the correct area on arrival.

All appointments for blood tests MUST be pre-booked. Please do not attend any of our departments without an appointment as you will be turned away. Please note, Morriston Hospital has the fewest number of appointment slots and therefore the longest wait. Earlier appointments are usually available at the Bay Field Hospital.

Please note: If you are experiencing issues accessing the blood test booking form, hosted on Microsoft Forms, please try a different device. Older versions of the Apple iOS system no longer supports the Office mobile apps, and some features may not be available on Safari.

Please note the following restrictions for booking blood tests:

Patient Age

Morriston, Neath Port Talbot, Singleton and the Bay Field Hospital cannot accept bookings for patients under 12 years of age.

For children under the age of 12 requiring bloods, the paediatric departments should be contacted directly to make an appointment. The Blood Test booking line does not book appointments for under 12’s. See information regarding children’s blood tests below.

Restrictions for certain tests

Please note, the following tests cannot be taken at Bay Field Hospital.

Please book a blood test at Morriston, NPTH or Singleton for:

Ammonia; Chromogranin; Insulin and C Peptide; ACTH; Gut Hormones: Homocysteine; Gastrin; Erythropoietin (EPO)

Also, the following tests must be performed at a specific site:

Quantiferon: Only available at Singleton, Morriston or NPTH Monday - Thursday mornings.

Cryoglobulins: Only available at Morriston

General information

Blood tests, sometimes referred to as phlebotomy, have a wide range of uses and are one of the most common types of medical tests.

A blood test can be used to assess your general state of health, check if you have an infection, see how well certain organs such as the liver and kidneys are working and screen for certain genetic conditions.

You must have a blood form to book your appointment for a blood test

The quickest and easiest way to book is by using the link above to the on line booking page.

If you can’t book online you can telephone 01792 601807, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 4pm.

  • There will be a fixed number of appointments available for booked blood tests at each hospital site daily.
  • Please attend blood test appointments alone. Only children or those who are vulnerable may be accompanied into our hospitals due to Covid-19 restrictions. Please do not arrive in the department more than five minutes before your appointment.
  • Disabled access: For health and safety reasons we reserve the right to prioritise patients with mobility issues at our clinics.

Please make every effort to attend booked blood test appointments. We keep a record of missed appointments.

Do not attend for a blood test if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Temperature or fever in the last 48 hours
  • A new persistent cough in the last 48 hours
  • Loss or change to sense of smell or taste
  • If you live in the same house as someone who has developed the above symptoms or has had a positive COVID-19 test in the last 14 days.
